Passikudah
The truly paradisiacal beach of Passikudah was already considered the "crown jewel of the country" in the 80s. After the ethnic conflicts and the tsunami of 2004, everything lay fallow, but for 15 years Passikudah has been back on the tourist map more than ever. Especially for families, the gently sloping beach offers the best conditions.
Things to do in Passikudah
Passikudah means pure relaxation, because there are few distractions around the resorts. Here you can enjoy sun, beach and sea and life takes place here between hotel and beach. If you only walk between the hammock, pool and beach, you can also endure the hot temperatures and high humidity from May to September. Some more distant destinations around Passikudah can be used to embed the place in a round trip.
- Almost 90 km inland is the Maduru Oya National Park with its large reservoir, which can be reached by car or train and can be integrated into a round trip with Passikudah.
- 100 km to the north on the east coast is the beach town of Trincomalee with Hindu temples and the coral island of Pigeon Island. The way there is already an experience: You drive along beautiful lagoons and small villages.
Best time to visit Passikudah
The best time to travel is from March to September. The temperatures on the east coast during this time are 25 to 33 degrees, the water temperatures are 28 to 30 degrees. The monsoon causes downpours around Passikudah between October/November and January/February.
Arrival and transport to Passikudah
Passikudah can be reached by public transport via the Valaichchenai Railway Station (via Batticaloa Line). Trincomalee is about 2.5 hours away by car, Arugam Bay about 3 hours, Maduru Oya National Park about 2.5 hours.
