Hikkaduwa Beach

Since the 1970s, the beaches of Hikkaduwa in the far southwest of Sri Lanka have been mainly home to those who like to mingle with other globetrotters. Some European dropouts have settled in this former fishing village and run hotels, beach bars, water sports rentals or jewellery shops.

Activities at Hikkaduwa Beach

The special thing about the approximately 3 km long beach section Hikkaduwa is its orange color, which shines particularly colorful in the setting sun. Behind the sandy beach there is a long palm grove in which the accommodations are hidden.

Hikkaduwa Beach borders Narigama Beach in the south, which appeals to a different target audience: Here you can still immerse yourself in hippie flair and especially the surfing opportunities are particularly great here. In addition to swimming and sunbathing in the soft sands of Hikkaduwa, there are a few other activities to do here:

  • Surfing : The surf of Narigama is an Eldorado for water sports enthusiasts. Wakeboarders and surfers in particular, but also pers and snorkelers will find the best wind and wave conditions here and various water sports schools offer their services.
  • Party : In Hikkaduwa/Narigama the surfer scene of Sri Lanka gathers, in the evening the never-lonely beach becomes a party mile or you move on to the well-known bars.
  • Culture : Only 20 km away is the city of Galle with its historic old town with its fortress (UNESCO World Heritage Site).
  • Snorkeling and swimming : The coral sanctuary off the coast offers fantastic conditions for snorkeling trips and glass-bottom boat tours, and the beach section is suitable for children due to the shallow waves. Turtles can be observed here almost daily
